Memo

Sayadaw will be taking time off teaching this winter (2018/19) due to his recent illness.

Memo from Sayadaw

I have received all the warm thoughts and good wishes from everyone.  Anumodana, I rejoice in your merits of well wishes.

If you have not yet heard, I was diagnosed with cancer during a routine blood test in Singapore this Aug 2018.

Now the treatment has begun and it will take about 6 months, during which the immune system is very weak.

The physician’s recommendation, therefore, is for me to take time off from teachings as much as possible.  The physician also recommends to not see visitors who have the flu, fever or any ailments as my treatment would have to stop if I get ill.

The effort I put into teaching the Buddha Dhamma has been intensive. Right now I’m having to take a temporary leave of absence.  My request to you all is to put real interest into your practice.  Certainty is not something you can expect from this world.

Don’t be worried that you won’t be able to practice. The practical Dhamma and guidance that I have passed on to you all is whole and complete.  Use right thinking and right view in your practice.  See whether it corresponds to the Buddha’s teaching or not.  If you’re really stuck, consult other teachers that are teaching in my style.

There’s nothing I ever wanted from you, except for the good effort in your practice to preserve and inherit Buddha’s teachings which is the way leading to the end of all suffering.  If you think of me, think of Dhamma.
